buffalo design is providing Construction Administration services for the new Laguna Elementary School and Maintenance Building. The LDOE has elected to manage this BIA funded project using a design – build contract for their new school through a Public Law 100-297 Grant. Under this arrangement the LDOE is required to manage the project by providing a Project Manager (PM), Construction Administrator (CA), Commissioning (CX), and Construction Inspection (CI) services.
As the CA for this project our scope-of-work includes working directly with the Owner’s representative and the Laguna Department of Education (LDOE), overseeing the work of the construction inspector, the design-build contractor and the architect. Working in this capacity, buffalo design is responsible for review of all design submittals, schedules, construction submittals, approval of all pay applications, project close-out documents and related tasks. Our responsibilities include review of all design documents submitted at required stages of development to ascertain the design adheres to the requirement of the BIA standards including the BIA School Facility Design Handbook and the BIA Facilities Space Template.
The K-5 school is located on a 15-acre site adjacent to the existing Laguna Middle School in the Pueblo of Laguna. The program includes two Kindergarten and two First Grade classrooms, one each of the Second through Fifth Grades classrooms, two Cultural Classrooms, a Media Center, combined Gym and Lunchroom, a full-service Kitchen, Administration Offices and Support Services. Adjacent to the school will be outdoor learning areas including a plaza for learning traditional dance and related activities.
The work includes the design and construction of the Elementary School, the Maintenance Building, site work and all on-site and off-site utilities. Construction of this project began in late July 2019 starting with the site work and utilities. Construction of the Maintenance Building has begun and construction documents for the Elementary School will be complete at the end of September. This project is currently on budget and schedule.
